Angelina Jolie – Actress, Crusader, Mom

Her parents were separated when she was only a year old and her mother had to give up her acting career to move back to New York and raise her daughter. Angelina now attributes her early interest in cinema to watching her mom’s early movies. When she was only 11 years old her mom got a job in Los Angeles and Angelina enrolled in the world famous Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. She spent two years absorbing tips from the experts at the Institute.

She had to put her movie ambitions on hold at 14 though when she went through a Goth period. She decided she wanted to become a funeral director and started wearing black clothing and purple hair. She left home and rented a garage apartment near the family home where she lived with her boyfriend. At 16 however her drive to entertain became overwhelming and she reenrolled in drama and finished high school. She still claims to have deep roots with the Goth understanding and says she will be one at heart always.

When she appeared in the Lara Croft, movies she became an overnight sensation and legally changed her name, dropping the Voight, and the change was finalized in 2002. Her father took exception to her name change and attacked her in the media, saying that she was suffering from serious mental problems. She had decided to cut all ties with her father and devote her familial attentions to global issues and creating a family of her own.
